Take the slow way to Isla Mujeres.
A considered perspective on the places and moments that make this coast memorable.
CANCÚN. / THE LOCAL EDITTake the slow way to Isla Mujeres.
Isla Mujeres sits just offshore from Cancún, close enough to feel accessible yet different enough to change the pace. A good day here doesn't have to be a race between stops. In fact, leaving a little space is often the point.
Start with the crossing
The journey begins before you reach the island. Compare the departure points, schedules and ticket conditions offered by ferry services. Some travelers will prefer the convenience of an organized sailing trip; others will want the independence of a ferry ticket. Neither is automatically the better choice.
Choose one direction
You can fill a day with activities, but it is worth deciding what you actually want: beaches, a slow lunch, a look around town or time on the water. Keeping the plan simple gives you more room to enjoy what you find.
Leave room for the weather
Wind and sea conditions can affect crossings and water-based activities. Check current information with your ferry company or operator. If you plan to swim or snorkel, follow local safety guidance.
A useful checklist
Before you leave, check your return departure, transport to your embarkation point, the weather forecast and payment arrangements. A little preparation buys you a much more relaxed day.
